MidNight Pearl – Sign Guidelines

Background:

Signage is a complicated field, with many tricky details. If details are missed, it can lead to delays during the design and production stage. For this reason, a signage guideline was created for MidNight Pearl, a bubble tea store chain.

Problems:

There are many issues that may occur in signage. Here are a few: 1) Custom sign shapes can cause problems when an improper logo is supplied. 2) Digital Menu Boards with illegible text. 3) Splitting Artwork at the wrong orientation.

1) SOLUTION TO CUSTOM SIGN SHAPES:
Signs come in all shapes and sizes. Therefore if an improper logo is supplied, the logo be illegible. Many variations of the logo were supplied to counteract this issue.

2) SOLUTION TO DIGITAL MENUS SMALL TEXT
Often, text on digital menu boards are too small to read. A grid was created for digital menus to prevent this problem.

3) SOLUTION TO SPLITTING ARTWORK

Splitting artwork is a process of combining pieces to make the final sign. When done incorrectly, it may require the sign to be reprinted, costing money and revenue loss.

Generally, designers are taught to avoid splitting artwork through text and images. However, in the example below, it requires splitting horizontally through the image due to the installation method. If it were split vertically, the install would not work.

Communicating with the printer and sign installer to ensure the correct orientation of tiling is prepared will prevent these issues.
